Gaston Social Services: Protecting, caring for, and empowering children and adults who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves through the administration of federal, state, and county programs focused on improving the well-being of our citizens.
An hourly salary range of $24.71 to $28.72 is anticipated for this position.
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Gathering, exploring, documenting, interpreting, evaluating, and staffing with superiors information from reporters of child protective services issues via telephone calls, office visits, mail and e-mails. Intake Social Worker is responsible for making a recommendation to superiors as to whether the information reported meets North Carolina statutory definitions and NCDHHS-Division of Social Services Policy guidance around abuse, neglect, and dependency of children. This worker will use NC-Fast/CWS to document CPS report. This worker must conduct responsibilities in a hasty and time-sensitive manner in order to facilitate the initiation of accepted Child Protective Services Reports within required timeframes.
Providing agency’s initial response to parents, children, relatives, delinquent juveniles, community partners, and other reporters regarding disturbing and problematic relationships and occurrences (to include counseling and referral) in linking to appropriate services. The Intake Social Worker is responsible for evaluating needs and referring to helping agencies, in addition to evaluating appropriateness for DHHS interventions.
Staffing of information received (multiple times in complex situations) with all superiors who need further explanation and/or exploration in order to make the best possible decision (could even include court testimony). Re-contacting reporters (within the policy-defined reporting chain) to gain further or more detailed information.
Completing of all necessary documentation to move reports, general intake calls, and other assignments through the intake process (upkeep of intake logs) and on to the appropriate destinations, including authorization for specified funding sources (as determinable at intake).
Compiling case histories of families that have previously been served by Gaston County DHHS for other counties where the families are currently being assessed and/or investigated.
Must be available to work mandatory emergency shelters & other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
BSW from an accredited school of social work
Four- year degree in a human services field from an accredited college/university and one year directly related experience
Four- year degree from an accredited college/university & 2 years directly related experience

These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S.143B-1209.26, which authorizes the SBI to provide fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checks to cities and counties.
