Overview
The City of Fremont's Maintenance Operations Department is recruiting for Building Maintenance Worker I/II (HVAC & General Maintenance). The Building Maintenance Division provides HVAC and general maintenance support for all public facilities, including City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Building Maintenance Workers (HVAC) design, fabricate, inspect, install, troubleshoot and evaluate problems with HVAC equipment; repair heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related apparatus; install, repair and/or replace controls for energy management systems; perform preventive maintenance and sheet metal work, including design and fabrication. Building Maintenance Workers provide general maintenance support, including painting, electrical repairs, wall repair, roof repair, carpentry/metal work, and floor repair.
The Positions
The Building Maintenance Division is seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide HVAC maintenance support for all public facilities. The Building Maintenance Division is also seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide general maintenance support for all public facilities.

Building Maintenance Worker I
Essential Functions
Carpentry/Metal Work: performs rough and finish maintenance carpentry and plastering; installs wood shelving; repairs and replaces doors, windows, hardware, fencing and gates; performs general maintenance and roof system work; fabricates and welds steel; glazing and floor covering work. Painting: prepares surfaces, uses brushes, rollers, and spray equipment; repairs and wallpapers. Plumbing: inspects, installs, troubleshoots and repairs plumbing fixtures and supply lines. Electrical: inspects, installs and repairs electrical fixtures and related apparatus. HVAC: performs preventive maintenance on heating and air conditioning units; changes filters and blowers; refrigerant recovery is not included. Parts Warehousing/Coordination: inventories and maintains materials; assigns and purchases parts; operates warehouse systems; processes invoices; restocks and distributes materials; operates forklift and delivery truck; maintains a clean warehouse; performs light custodial duties. Marginal Functions: builds, transports, installs, repairs fixtures; cleans tools and work sites; heavy equipment operation; other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of progressively responsible experience in operation, maintenance and repair of building systems and components, and/or building maintenance parts supply and inventory management work.

Essential Functions
Carpentry/Metal Working, Locksmithing, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Control Systems, and Other assignments: extensive duties across multiple trades, including construction carpentry, cabinet-making, form work, glazing, flooring, plumbing, electrical systems, energy management controls, and preventive maintenance. Design, fabricate and weld steel fixtures; maintain locks and electronic access controls; install and maintain energy management and security systems; supervise or lead other trades workers on projects; provide training and coordination as needed. Marginal Functions: other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and four years of progressively responsible experience in operation, maintenance and repair of building systems and components. Control Systems responsibilities require at least two years of HVAC or security digital controls experience. Licenses/Certificates: Valid Class C California Driver License required. HVAC assignments may require EPA refrigerant handling certification. Knowledge of construction and repair procedures for carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC; safe work practices; applicable codes. Parts Coordination: inventory control, warehousing. Ability to read plans and codes; operate data loggers; follow instructions; work independently; identify safety hazards; learn forklift/heavy equipment operation; build cooperative relationships.
Education/Experience: any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school and two years of related experience. Licenses/Certificates: valid Class C California Driver License. Physical Demands: as described in posting.
