Summary Performs a wide range of facilities services tasks including technical maintenance of structural, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning facilities and equipment, at a level not requiring formal licensure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor and perform carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window replacement, cabinet and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, door and hardware installation, and painting interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate.
Perform and assist, in non‑technical maintenance, installation, and repair to buildings and equipment in construction and mechanical trades including plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, masonry, metal work, glazing, tile work, roofing, flooring, ventilating systems, welding, and mechanics.
Make routine and emergency repairs and adjustments to campus buildings and facilities.
Apply finishes to a variety of surfaces such as wood, metal, glass, stucco, wallboard, brick, and cement.
Perform general maintenance of plumbing systems, including standard repairs of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing pipe systems, and non‑technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems; assist licensed plumbing contractors as required.
Perform standard repairs to building electrical facilities and systems such as lamps, fixtures, switches, and outlets; assist licensed electrical contractors with non‑technical repairs and installations as required.
May perform general custodial and janitorial tasks as required.
May repair, service, or replace appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, ranges, dishwashers, and other equipment.
Ensure careful use, proper maintenance, and proper operation of equipment such as snake chases, dehumidifiers, floor fans, extractors, and power and hand tools.
Assist with moving heavy furniture, equipment, and materials as assigned.
Follow department policies and procedures to complete maintenance requests through the university work‑order system; access the system via tablet, ensuring proper updates and documentation throughout the process.
Request parts and supplies as needed for tasks, including local vendor pick‑ups.
Attend regular safety meetings, work safely, and complete required training programs determined by OSHA, CalOSHA, and the EPA to promote safe and healthy environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities This position could be responsible for working with outside contractors.

Physical Demands The physical demands described must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard or other office or power tool equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. Considerable physical activity; requires heavy lifting, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
