Business Development Manager - Corporate M&A/PE

Role purpose The Business Development Manager - M&A/PE will support and work closely with partners to develop and implement business development and marketing strategies for the firm’s U.S. offices, and will collaborate with BD teams across the firm to support the M&A and Private Equity practices. Responsibilities include responding to RFPs, coordinating firmwide initiatives, sponsorship and event management, collateral creation, client targeting, media opportunities with the communications team, thought leadership, and legal directory submissions. Director of Business Development - M&A/PE (Boston) Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer - Americas (New York) Partners and fee earners in the M&A/PE group U.S. business development team Peers across global BD, marketing, and communications teams Context This role is partner-facing and serves as the go-to for partners and fee earners for all BD and marketing within the U.S. M&A and Private Equity groups. The BDM will be involved in strategy, pitches, market research, events, PR, and the day-to-day marketing processes management, planning, and execution. Role and responsibilities Practice strategy, planning and execution: develop and implement BD strategies for each partner and practice; align initiatives with goals; build target client lists; track and report progress; drive practice and client development. Pitches, proposals and credentials: prepare and manage competitive proposals, credentials, pitches, and presentations; deliver high‑quality presentations; ensure creativity, accuracy, and attention to detail. Lateral integration: support onboarding of lateral hires; introduce BD processes and resources; facilitate collaboration and client development continuity. Horizon scanning: monitor sectors, identify market trends and client opportunities; share actionable insights. Cross-practice and cross-office integration: coordinate projects across practices/offices; leverage the firm’s network for new business and cross-sell. Marketing processes management: maintain BD/Marketing processes; ensure bios, photos, experience, and website content are current; manage marketing collateral and decks. Collaboration and client listening: partner with global/local BD teams; implement debrief processes; incorporate client feedback to improve service and win rates. Client events and sponsorships: identify sponsorships; secure speaker opportunities; plan client and charity events; manage materials, logistics, and evaluation. Deal lists and experience management: maintain master deal lists and experience repositories; share information with internal/external databases. Market research: research existing/prospective clients and competitors; provide recommendations on marketing and client strategies. Marketing discussions: lead meetings to review progress and client targeting. Profile/PR: draft materials for legal directories and industry publications; coordinate media opportunities with Communications/PR. Team development: mentor junior team members; model professionalism, collaboration, initiative, integrity, and client focus. Requirements Minimum 5 years of legal or professional services experience in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to develop understanding of M&A and Private Equity sectors; experience in these sectors preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication; high attention to detail and client focus. Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with partners, clients, and BD colleagues; ability to present to senior management. Strong project management skills with ability to prioritize multiple deadlines. Proven track record of achieving strategic objectives and allocating resources accordingly. Experience with budgeting; ability to write business cases is a plus. Strong knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Bachelor’s degree required.
