Overview
A growing custom fabrication and welding shop based in Franklin Park, Illinois, is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to lead day-to-day operations across a diverse range of projects—from precision food production equipment to large-scale architectural builds. This position plays a key leadership role in managing workflow, supporting safety and quality standards, and mentoring a talented team of welders and fabricators. The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, and ready to help shape the continued growth and efficiency of a respected local operation. Salary Range:
$100,000 - $120,000 / year DOE Base pay range
$100,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr Custom Welding Shop Foreman Responsibilities
Oversee daily shop operations and ensure quality, safety, and production goals are met Supervise a team of welders and fabricators across varied custom projects Collaborate with management on scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation Participate in capital investment discussions for new equipment and process improvements Conduct regular safety meetings, training sessions, and certifications (e.g., forklift, respirator) Support material ordering and inventory communication between the shop and office team Provide mentorship, guidance, and on-the-job training to developing welders Assist in client discussions as needed to align project scope and fabrication requirements Custom Welding Shop Foreman Requirements
5–10+ years of experience in a custom fabrication or job shop environment Prior leadership or foreman experience strongly preferred Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding with knowledge of aluminum and stainless steel processes Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately Background in press brake operation, arc gouging, and plate shearing Understanding of food industry fabrication standards and sanitary welds Basic mechanical and fabrication skills with strong attention to detail Comfortable using shop-related software such as CAD, SolidWorks, or QuickBooks Strong organizational skills, clear communicator, and collaborative team mindset Benefits
