Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

Performs and documents complex social services work, serving as a liaison among individuals, legally authorized representatives, and others to assure ongoing care, treatment, and support using person-centered practices.

Gathers information to assess the individual's support systems and needs, participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, and completes initial social histories with updates.

Assesses rights and capacity to make decisions; provides individual and group training to promote exercise of rights.

Assists with admissions, transfers, transitions, and discharges, coordinating as needed; works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for initiative.

Participates in disaster response and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as required, which may include alternate shift patterns or location changes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health concepts, and social work standards for case management, resources, and practice theories.

Ability to be accountable for assigned property with limited financial responsibilities; strong interviewing, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, case management, mediation, counseling, information and referral, problem solving, supervision, consultation, and advocacy skills.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in both individual and group settings; adherence to professional codes of conduct and ethics.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications The Social Worker is required to maintain licensure in accordance with the Texas Board of Social Work Examiners.

Initial Screening Criteria

Baccalaureate Social Worker, Master Social Worker, or Clinical Social Worker required.

One year of experience working directly with persons with mental health issues required, or completion of State Hospital internship program.

Additional Information

Applicants must pass background checks, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age (Waco Center for Youth: 21).

Flexibility in work hours; overtime/extended hours may be required. Immunization policy compliance may be required; vaccine-protectable diseases are addressed per policy.
