General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store and for general operations and supervision when serving as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and maintaining a clean workplace. The Area Supervisor also executes and supervises company operational processes as needed.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Safety is the number one priority.

Maintain awareness on the sales floor and correct or report unsafe conditions.

Secure the building, manage entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.

Remove clutter and keep clear egress to emergency exits.

Ensure customer safety, prevent accidents, report incidents, and follow emergency procedures.

Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.

Recognize associates via company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represent and support the company brand.

Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code.

Ensure all associates adhere to the dress code.

Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.

Responsible for daily trash removal and restroom inspections.

General Merchandising

Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards.

Receive merchandise truck and process all merchandise urgently.

Accept all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.

Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.

Ensure back‑stock is secured and processed to policy.

Merchandise departments, including back‑stock.

Reduce loss due to damage and comply with monthly presentation guidelines.

Perform floor moves, signing, and promotional signing as needed.

Handle re‑wraps as required.

Loss Prevention

Execute the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong presence on floor.

Demonstrate integrity, safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card data.

Maintain the Public View Monitor system.

Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.

Implement best practices to minimize steps and touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Execute best practices and minimize steps at the front end.

Maintain pace and presence at the front end and manage line to expedite wait time.

Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures.

Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.

Ensure all equipment is working properly and maintain proper supplies.

Expedite go‑backs, ensuring they are scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.

Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice.

Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms

Maintain and clean fitting rooms.

Audit all fitting room garment tags and account for them.

Manage go‑back compliance for returned merchandise.

Administrative Duties (as assigned by Store Manager)

Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits.

Control front‑end activity and approve refunds, payer purchases, and cash security.

Administer payroll, edit punchouts, schedule compliance, and reporting.

Other duties as assigned by Store Manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Basic math skills common to retail environments.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Use all store equipment including PDTs, registers, PC.

Spend up to 100% of time standing, walking, moving around the store.

Regularly bend at waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, stoop.

Occasionally push, pull, lift more than 25 lbs.

Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.

Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, lifting more than 20 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits Base pay range: $16.31 – $16.81 per hour. Other rewards, benefits and incentives vary by position and location.
