Position : Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision. The role involves continuing to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while complying with all company policies and achieving performance metrics.

DUTIES

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections and follow up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.

Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.

Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment as listed above and others.

Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.

Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.

Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/assess alternatives with sound judgment.

Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.

Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections.

Communicate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.

Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations.

Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.

Document work according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application.

Complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely fashion.

Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule.

Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.

Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.

Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve PO numbers and discuss RO findings.

Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Maintain company issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.

REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience; or alternative combinations such as higher level degree/certification in a related discipline; or 5 years’ related experience.

Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.

Must comply with DOT/FMCSA pre-employment background screening and DOT physical requirements.

Current and valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; if 4 months or less, a DOT physical is required.

Candidate must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority.

Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
