Department Overview
SSEC engineers and scientists develop and utilize space-, aircraft- and ground-based instrumentation to collect and analyze observations of the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, land surface, and other planetary atmospheres to improve our understanding of weather, climate, and atmospheric processes. Through this research we produce new resources, products, and tools that are helping to improve the accuracy and timeliness of weather forecasts.
The SSEC Data Center hosts one of the world’s largest archives of satellite weather data. It currently maintains an online database of over 3 PBs.

Anticipated Hours Per Week Minimum: 6
Schedule Must be available a minimum of 6 hours/week, with preference given to availability on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. Please provide a copy of your current class schedule for the semester.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum Minimum: 16.00

Qualifications
Must be enrolled as a student for duration of employment.
Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Undergraduate students preferred.
Students majoring in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences or other Earth Science fields preferred.
Interest in Meteorology or Satellite imagery is useful.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience using Linux is useful.
Ability to write Linux shell scripts is useful.
Experience with scripting languages, Python, PHP, HTML, Containers, ML, and SQL will be given additional consideration.
Position Summary/Job Duties Duties include assisting the Satellite Data Services Team Leader with Weather Satellite Data Quality Control, Programming projects, html coding and system administration tasks.
Physical Demands None.
