Qualifications
Completion of at least two semesters of college by Summer 2025 (rising sophomores). Open to all undergraduate students, regardless of school or college affiliation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Attention to detail and organizational skills, punctual, reliable attendance, and flexible Previous experience or willingness to develop skills to be a positive role model and mentor to high school students, especially those who may need more support engaging in the community Previous experience or strong desire to work with and empower students from diverse backgrounds (cultural, economic, ethnic, and regional) Ability to enforce WSB Precollege policies and procedures Understanding of diversity and inclusion and a willingness to learn more to create and support inclusive spaces Highly motivated with initiative to learn about Wisconsin School of Business services and resources Excellent interpersonal communication, group facilitation, and social-emotional skills Ability to be a team player and leader in different situations and adapt to changing needs of WSB Precollege programs Valid driver’s license to operate UW fleet vehicles preferred but not required
Position Summary / Job Duties
The Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) Precollege Program offers immersive programs supporting high school students’ career exploration, including school-year workshops, summer day camps, and a three-week summer residential program, Bridge to BEL for incoming BEL scholarship recipients. Participants learn about WSB Undergraduate programs, explore business majors through job shadowing and networking, explore personal identities, and engage in applied learning activities. Participation provides students with a competitive advantage when transitioning to college life, learning in classes, and applying for internships. WSB Precollege Student Leaders (PSLs) will support all aspects of WSB Precollege Summer Day camps; Business Basics and Junior Business Badgers and Bridge to BEL residential program. PSLs will supervise youth, ensure safety, provide mentorship, and support program participants.
Facilitate activities that promote leadership, teamwork, diversity and inclusion Work closely with the BEL and Precollege Program Managers and Director of BEL and Precollege Programs Contribute to creating safe, inclusive spaces that support personal growth and diverse experiences Assist program staff and instructors with planning and executing all program activities, excursions, and events Support the facilitation of workshops on professional development and college readiness Provide insight and feedback to staff and instructors to effectively engage participants Anticipate, understand, and address the academic and social needs of high school youth Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings Adhere to Communicable Disease Plan to ensure health and safety Other relevant duties as assigned
Compensation & Requirements
Compensation:
$5,940 stipend (pre-tax). Housing and meal plan provided. Requirements:
Must be able to commit to working all dates of employment to receive full stipend. Staff are required to live in University Housing from Sunday, July 6 to Saturday, August 1. Early move-in may be available (as early as June 7). Staff training dates: Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm (no training on July 4); Monday, July 6 – Wednesday, July 8, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Physical Demands
Occasionally lifting items up to 10–15 pounds. Occasional sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods. Supervising camp activities in various weather conditions.
