Job Overview The Mental Health Screener provides crisis assessments for children and adults across the developmental lifespan in the Union County screening center, community and affiliated emergency rooms.
The Mental Health Screener develops safety plans, dischargeplans, facilitates admissions via the RWJ Access Center and coordinates with an interdisciplinary team, families, community supporters, and local and state mental health partners. This role uses evidence-based practice and assessment tools to support a plan, including the least restrictive setting, as well as complete screening documents for adults 18 and over when involuntary admission is being recommended.
After training and completion of the state's required classes and test, this role would be eligible to participate in alternate response teams, including ARRIVE together mobile outreach.
Qualifications
Master's Degree Social Work with a specialization in Mental Health, or Master's Degree in Mental Health discipline
One year post-master's acute care experience in a psychiatric setting
Bachelor's degree in Psychology
Three years of acute care full-time post-bachelor experience, one year of which is in a crisis setting
Clean driver's license as determined by the employer, and validated by the state MVA in which the employee resides
Certifications and Licenses Required
Certified, or certification-eligible as a Screener by the State of New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Hospitals
Must be approved by DMHAS for a temporary license prior to hire

Provide ER, hospital-based and community-based crisis assessment for children and adults
Determine appropriate levels of care based on NJ screening laws and make referrals to ensure safe discharge planning
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop admission, safety and discharge plans
Coordinate with community providers and outside agencies
Provide mobile crisis outreach for adults over 18 in Union County
Answer the 24-hour crisis hotline line
