Overview

Clinical Response Coordinator - Legacy of Hope role at UAB Medicine. The CRC is an integral part of the organ donation process at Legacy of Hope (LoH). The position involves on-site hospital visits, coordination with on-call administration, donor suitability assessment, donor family support, and coordination of laboratory testing and donor management after brain death is declared. Responsibilities

Perform on-site visits to donor hospitals within the coverage area. Collaborate with hospital staff and Legacy of Hope personnel to determine initial and ongoing donor suitability based on available clinical data and medical records. Communicate clinically significant information to hospital teams and on-site/off-site Legacy of Hope staff. Encourage implementation of catastrophic brain injury guidelines as appropriate based on clinical judgement. Identify and support donor families with information about donation opportunities (organ and tissue). Coordinate transport of blood for serological testing and tissue typing to appropriate laboratories after authorization. Initiate individualized case donor management after brain death is declared to maintain donor stability and coordinate arrival of procurement transplant coordinator (PTC) or CCT to the donor’s location. Order/interpret labs, manage fluids, and administer vasoactive/hemodynamic support as needed for donor status. Obtain required information from hospital records for transfer with patients to the donor recovery center as appropriate. Perform partner services as directed, including rounding on units, presenting outcomes to hospital staff, and participating in education about donor suitability and brain death testing. Maintain a 12-15 day per month 24-hour call schedule. Qualifications

Education and Experience Required: Associate’s degree in a medical or related field and one (1) year of experience in nursing, as an EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, or experience in the donation industry. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Preferred: Hospital experience, crisis intervention, and/or grief support. License, Certification And/Or Registration Required: Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured. Preferred: Currently licensed/certified as a Nurse, EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, or related.
