Serve as an integral member of the organ donation process at Legacy of Hope. Perform on-site visits to donor hospitals within coverage area; determine initial suitability of potential organ and tissue donors in collaboration with the administrator on call. Communicate with hospital and physician staff in a collaborative and professional manner; assess case dynamics to determine clinically significant information to communicate to hospital teams and off-site Legacy of Hope staff. Assess available clinical data from medical records or bedside assessment to determine initial medical suitability for donation; encourage implementation of catastrophic brain injury guidelines as appropriate. Identify and support potential donor families with information about donation opportunities (organ and tissue) as needed. Coordinate transport of blood for serological testing and tissue typing to appropriate laboratories after authorization. Initiate individualized case donor management after brain death is declared to ensure donor stability while coordinating arrival of the procurement transplant coordinator or critical care transport to the donor’s location. Maintain donor management tasks (ordering/interpreting labs, fluid maintenance, vasoactive/hemodynamic support as required). Obtain and transfer required information from the hospital medical record with patients moved from the donor hospital to the donor recovery center as appropriate. Perform specific partner services activities as directed, such as rounding through units to build relationships, presenting information/outcomes to hospital staff, and participating in education about donor suitability and brain death testing. Work a schedule that requires approximately 12-15 days of 24-hour call per month. Qualifications

Position Requirements Education and Experience: Required: Associate’s degree in a medical or related field and one (1) year of experience in nursing, as an EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, or experience in the donation industry. Work experience may substitute for the education requirement. Preferred: Hospital experience, crisis intervention, and/or grief support. Licensure, Certification and/or Registration: Required: Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured. Preferred: Currently licensed/certified as a Nurse, EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, or related. Traits & Skills: Must be self-directed and self-motivated; strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and manage own work with minimal supervision. Maintain patient confidentiality; convey empathy and compassion to those in pain or grief. Ability to work with diverse populations and adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and complex situations; maintain customer focus and satisfy perceived needs.
