Overview
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the Veteran's experience by providing an exceptional examination process and facilitating access to treatment subspecialists when necessary. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits for service-connected health issues. Examiners use a web-based examination form to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Pay and Schedule
Base pay range: $140,504.00/yr - $170,497.00/yr. Pay includes a monthly incentive plan. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Travel: 10% to support other clinics; additional travel for required training or events. Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to include other clinics. Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic results, and other pertinent documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran's medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities based on examination findings, diagnostics, and record review. Case Management and Collaboration: understand and work within the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and communicate with the Quality Assurance Team; collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed. Document Examination Findings: accurately record findings in medical opinions and recommendations, following VA guidelines and contractual requirements. Maintain Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring accuracy and fairness; comply with VA training requirements and VA MDE program requirements. Confidentiality and HIPAA: safeguard patient information and ensure HIPAA compliance; complete required annual HIPAA assessments. Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Accredited Physician Assistant program graduate with an active, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the United States. Experience: at least 1 year as a Physician Assistant; prior experience conducting medical disability examinations or related field preferred. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, with renewals. Other: military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities preferred; continued training in Medical Disability Evaluations or related areas is advantageous. Clinical and Interpersonal Skills: ability to conduct comprehensive medical assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and present findings clearly; strong empathy, ethics, analytics, and communication skills; ability to work independently and with teams; strong organizational and time-management abilities. Authorization: must be authorized to work in the United States, including federal contractor requirements. Additional Information
Reasoning Ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and solve problems with a few variables. Technological Proficiency: proficient in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, and electronic medical records; familiarity with Teams and LMS platforms preferred. Physical Requirements: ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods, operate a computer, and lift up to 15 pounds as needed to perform examinations.
