Overview
Mobile Diesel Mechanic II role with Fleet Services by Cox Automotive. Location: Stockton, CA (with nationwide fleet services). This position focuses on mobile on-site maintenance and repairs for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers, with opportunities to perform advanced diagnostics under supervision. Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on electrical, braking, cooling, engine, transmission, steering, and related systems. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment; use test instruments and handheld computers to diagnose malfunctions. Road test vehicles to verify repairs and diagnose issues. Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/assess alternatives. Independently manage parts inventory and operate a company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliations. Maintain and operate the service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections. Communicate with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve issues, and meet expectations. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work according to company standards; upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings in the TRAIT app on an iOS device. Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner. Work independently with a reliable daily schedule; maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Coordinate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, PO numbers, and RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Maintain the company-issued service truck and conduct routine safety checks and pre/post-trip inspections. Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience; or alternative combinations such as higher education in a related field or 5 years’ related experience. Possess and provide a complete set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties. Obtain ASE certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months. Must pass DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical; comply with FMCSA regulations. Current and valid DOT medical card is acceptable in lieu of a DOT physical if valid for more than 4 months; otherwise a DOT physical is required. Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority. Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File. Certifications
ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months (required). Preferred Certifications
ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and T8/609 certifications where applicable. Skills & Abilities
Ability to learn and apply new information for problem-solving and decision-making. Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; capable of moderately heavy work. Strong communication skills; ability to convey information clearly and engage in two-way dialogue. Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks; spatial awareness for tool use.
