A Vegetation Team Technical Support - Mechanic position is available at Schofield Barracks, HI with CSU and CEMML. The role is responsible for performing mechanical services and repairs, including inspecting, diagnosing, and servicing light and heavy equipment. Tasks include routine maintenance (inspecting, greasing, cleaning, maintaining fluids, etc.), maintaining inventory of parts/supplies, and ensuring a clean and organized workshop in accordance with the Environmental Compliance Inspection program. Work location is on US Army Garrison Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. Schofield Barracks location description is provided for context. The work location is dependent on partner/project needs and requires staff to be fully in-person. Responsibilities
Perform mechanical services and repairs for light and heavy equipment; inspect, diagnose, and service as required. Conduct routine maintenance tasks (inspecting, greasing, cleaning, maintaining fluids, etc.). Maintain inventory of parts and supplies; ensure a clean, organized workshop. Adhere to Environmental Compliance Inspection program requirements. Required Job Qualifications
Experience following directions, working cross-functionally, and maintaining safety standards. High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent. At least 3 years of experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing small and large engines, including gas- and diesel-powered engines. Experience performing routine maintenance tasks (inspecting, greasing, cleaning, maintaining fluids, changing tires, replacing parts, etc.). Experience using diagnostic scanners and reading/understanding technical service manuals. Proven ability to recognize and report defects or malfunctions upon inspection. Ability to maintain simple records and provide reports and status updates as necessary. Ability to drive vehicles such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks, tractors, graders, compactors, bulldozers, loaders, scrapers, mowers, and other light/heavy construction equipment for maintenance purposes. Proficient verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity). Physical ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly without assistance and to work with others to lift heavier items; ability to climb onto and under equipment to perform tasks safely. Preferred Job Qualifications
5+ years of experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing small and large engines. Technical, vocational or trade school education. Experience working on diesel engines. Experience working on military lands. ASE Certification in one or more of the following areas: Automobile Service Technology; Brakes; Electrical systems; Engine Performance; Engine Repair; Manual Drive Train and Axles; Suspension and Steering. Prior experience supporting the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program. Working knowledge of and experience with the Department of the Army or other federal land-management agencies.
