Under the general direction of the Corridor Manager and a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Assistant Project Manager / Risk Manager provides comprehensive support to the Last Chance Grade Project Manager in overseeing the successful delivery of Last Chance Grade and other complex transportation projects. The position performs a dual role in day-to-day project management and specialized risk management functions. The incumbent ensures compliance with contract requirements, supports financial accountability, coordinates project meetings and events, develops and implements project controls, and leads risk management activities in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Incumbent must have comprehensive knowledge of District, North Region and Headquarters operations; strong computer and analytical skills; ability to establish cooperative relationships with District staff, project managers, management and other stakeholders; knowledge of project initiation and program management concepts and SHOPP program elements; asset management and Complete Streets concepts; Civil Engineering principles; experience with engineering plans using CADD, design details and cost estimates; ability to analyze engineering problems and identify effective solutions; ability to analyze and prioritize requirements across STIP, SHOPP, Minor and Storm Damage projects; ability to monitor delivery and recommend corrective actions. Working Conditions

Position is located at 1656 Union Street, Eureka, CA 95501. Working hours are between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Telework may be available per Caltrans policy. Occasional travel and field reviews may be required, including exposure to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces and extreme temperatures. In-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. All commute expenses to the headquartered location are the responsibility of the selected candidate. Application Instructions
