Posted Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 5:00 AM | Expires Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 3:59 AM Building Maintenance Mechanic Job Summary: Performs variety of skilled maintenance work for buildings and grounds including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work as well as routine maintenance and repairs. Essential Functions: Inspects, tests, adjusts, and repairs all physical plant machinery, heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems, and records maintenance in accordance with schedules. Constructs and repairs building structures, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture. Performs skilled maintenance activities including construction, brazing, soldering, and minor plumbing. Checks and repairs pumps, fans, valves, and motors. Installs electrical equipment such as wiring, switching devices, controls, etc. Maintains tools and machinery in good condition and uses all tools carefully and as instructed. Sheet rock and carpentry experience is a
must. Other Responsibilities: Prepares accurate records for preventive maintenance. Moves furniture and equipment as needed. Assists in performing groundskeeping work as needed. Cleans and maintains workshop in orderly manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Materials and Equipment: Hand saw Planer Joiner Shaper Table saw Wood lathe Drill press Sanding Machine Router Electric drill Hammer Screw Drivers Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the methods, materials, tool, and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades. Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, construction, and air conditioning equipment. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved. Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the trades involved. Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments. Ability to follow instructions and work with little or no supervision. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: Two years course work from a technical or vocational school in construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning as well as plumbing and electronics, and seven years’ experience performing maintenance and repair work for commercial building and grounds, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. License and Certification Requirements: None. Physical Requirements: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Ability to lift heavy (50-100 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Working Conditions: Work primarily in an office environment; however, time is spent outside (approximately 25% to 50% of the time) exposed to temperature extremes, dirt, dust, noise, etc. All employees recognize that The Salvation Army is a church and agree that they will do nothing as an employee of The Salvation Army to undermine its religious mission.
