Job Description The Academic Program Specialist will perform specialized administrative support for the Office of Student Services Administration. This position serves as a point of contact for current and prospective students for enrollment, program/degree requirements, and other student services administrative matters. The Office of Student Services in a "one-stop" area comprised of Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Registration, Student Engagement, Veteran Services, Disability Services, and Career Services. Collaboration with University personnel is extremely important to effectively serve our students and support staff. This position will work closely these departments to accomplish their mission, vision, and goals of the University.
Responsibilities Responsibilities will include assisting guests/students in an immediate, positive, and dynamic way to support satisfaction and student success, including: answering phone calls and directing calls to appropriate departments; communicating information on academic programs; scheduling student appointments for appropriate academic departments; initiating and responding to student questions; and informing students on University policies. Resolving student issues when feasible and maintaining a manual for instruction and student reference.
Providing support as needed for reports and data entry for student record/activity logs and other administrative program duties. Providing support to the department through preparation and processing of academic forms. Scanning and indexing documents in the document imaging system to be uploaded to student records. Coordinating and conducting student outreach. Communicating with students regarding academic programs and course selection. Performing other administrative duties to support the departments in communicating with students to fulfill their department duties.
Performing specialized administrative duties required to support Student Services and its comprising departments, using discretion to make judgment calls based on operating guidelines. Assisting Student Records and Registration as needed with processing transient student information, unofficial and official transcript requests, enrollment certification, independent study contracts, and senior audit packets.
Work in partnership with the institution and Student Services staff to meet department and University missions and goals such as contributing to campus-wide committees and assisting with USFSM Students with Disability Services by assisting in proctoring exams. Distribution of correspondence and information to appropriate persons in the department, Monitors campus mobile radio system, closed circuit video surveillance, and plays an active role in campus emergency drills and operations.
Provides additional support for USFSM Disability Services by proctoring exams and helping students with disabilities familiarize themselves with the facilities at USFSM-NP. Provides additional support for USFSM Student Affairs by serving as the Liaison between SGA and North Port site, and assisting SGA with Week-of-Welcome
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with four years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Experience working in an educational setting.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
(b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
(c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
(d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
