Job Summary
Title: Instructor - General Chemistry
Department: CAS Chemistry and Biochemistry
Location: Columbia Campus, University of South Carolina
Salary: Competitive salary and benefits package.
Schedule: Full time (40 hours/week). Appointment: Nine‑month, professional‑track instructor, starting August 16, 2026. Position is renewable annually based on performance and availability of funds.
Position Description The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a full‑time professional‑track faculty position at the rank of Instructor. The incumbent will primarily teach General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Forensic Science in classroom and laboratory settings.
Teaching 4 lecture courses per semester (8 courses total over the 9‑month appointment) or an equivalent combination of lectures and laboratories.
Ensuring essential chemicals and appropriate instrumentation are available for laboratory courses.
Providing support to the Department’s lecture or lab programs as necessary.
Required Education and Experience
This position requires either (1) a master’s degree in chemistry or forensic science and at least six semesters of experience teaching undergraduate courses in general chemistry, forensic science, organic chemistry, chemistry for non‑science majors, and/or related laboratory instruction by the appointment start date; or (2) a Ph.D. in chemistry, forensic science, or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date, with evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
