Overview

The University of South Carolina Union invites applications for a 9-month, full-time Instructor of Biology. Teaching requirements include face-to-face and distance education, potentially including evening and/or weekend classes, along with teaching dual-enrollment classes at the USC Union campus, USC Union Laurens location, and on-site at various affiliated high schools. This role will entail instructing six courses per semester (6-6 course load). A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, as well as participation in university and community service, is expected. The selected candidate will have the responsibility of teaching introductory biology courses and any upper-level courses as needed.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned classes where needed under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs; help students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assess student learning outcomes. Teach six courses per semester (labs are treated as individual courses). Advise students; maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge in the regular teaching field; engage in continuing professional development; utilize current technology in the performance of job duties; maintain professional conduct and ethics; serve on college committees and participate in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Biology or a related field, with 18 graduate hours in Biology from an accredited university by the start date of employment, including credentials necessary for departmental approval to teach introductory and upper-level courses as needed.
