Overview
As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required for this position. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran by providing an exceptional examination experience that supports access to treatment when needed. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service-connected health issues. Our clinical insights help facilitate access to subspecialists when necessary, contributing to continuity of care for those who need it most. Clinical Examiners will be guided through a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and with others, have strong interpersonal skills, and be adaptable to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required. Note:

Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to include other clinics. Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic results, and other documentation to understand the Veteran’s medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work capacity and daily activities. Case Management: organize workload, submit examination findings, and communicate with the Quality Assurance Team; use the case management system effectively. Collaboration: coordinate with healthcare professionals and specialists to obtain additional information as needed for a thorough evaluation. Document Examination Findings: record findings and recommendations in reports that follow VA guidelines and contract requirements; ensure clarity and accuracy. Cross-Department Collaboration: work with Loyal Source departments to complete tasks and meet deadlines for optimal performance. Scheduling and Availability: manage time effectively and confirm availability and scheduling for all C&P exams. Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations; maintain accuracy, fairness, and quality in evaluations. QA Collaboration: work with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings. Training Compliance: maintain compliance with VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements. Confidentiality: safeguard patient information and examination results in accordance with privacy and security protocols; comply with HIPAA requirements, including annual assessments.
Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant program; valid and unrestricted Physician Assistant license; not barred from practicing in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or other U.S. possessions. Experience: at least 1 year as a Physician Assistant; prior experience in medical disability examinations or related fields preferred. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, including renewals. Experience with military or veteran communities preferred. Training: Specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations or occupational health is advantageous. Clinical Skills: ability to conduct comprehensive medical assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and form evidence-based medical opinions. Communication: excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences. Ethics: strong commitment to ethical standards, objectivity, and fairness in evaluations. Independence and Collaboration: ability to work independently and in a team; strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Customer Focus: deliver service with a sense of urgency and a patient-centered approach. Work Authorization: authorized to work in the United States and compliant with federal contractor requirements.

Travel: 10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for training or events may be required. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (standard schedule); clinic closures on holidays.
