Beds: 53 plus overflow; patient census on average is 58 Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit Responsibilities / Patient Care
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
Respiratory Distress Syndrome, TTN (Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn), MAS (Meconium Aspiration), Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, etc. Congenital Heart Defects (TOF, VSD, HLHS), PDA, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), etc. Seizures, IVH, Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), Feeding Intolerance, GER, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Birth Trauma, Congenital Anomalies, Sepsis, NAS, TORCH infections, Hypothermia, Hypoglycemia, etc. Additional systems: Respiratory, GI/GU/Musculoskeletal/Endocrine RN Ratios by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3
Skills required: EPIC experience, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temp monitoring), management of critical care vasoactive drips, invasive lines (ART lines/CVP), aseptic technique, dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, HOFV management, suctioning, feeding tube management, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation/analgesia drips, Foley, pumps management (Alaris/Medfusion), bedside procedures, discharge planning, CRRT, ECMO experience Support within the Department: Unit Secretary every shift; Charge nurse 24/7; IV/VAT/PCVC Team 24/7; Resource Nurse; RT 24/7; Intensivist 24/7; In-house Residents and APPs; Tele monitoring; Unit Educators AM/PM; Clinical Supervisors x6 Technology / Equipment
EMR: EPIC IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion Medication Dispensing: Omnicell Monitors: Philips Equipment: PIV Ultrasound and Tecotherm; Breast Milk Scanning: MOMs Floating & Orientation
Floating: Neonatal PCU; Gen Peds – float to Pediatric CVICU, PICU, and General Peds as needed with prior population experience Orientation: NEO; 2 days departmental Scheduling & Holidays
Schedule: 6-week cycle; eight shifts (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon) can be grouped or separate; Eve/day after holiday and every other holiday while contracted Weekend: 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays, plus every other weekend (Sat/Sun) every 6 weeks No call for travelers unless NICU cannot utilize; may float to similar units Holidays: Travelers will work holidays as scheduled RTO: Manager approval; longer RTO may require contract extension Clinical Supervisor will provide needs/dates Dress Code & Guidelines
Dress: Navy or White solid scrubs; no tight clothing; pediatric-friendly tops; avoid other organizational attire Practice Guidelines: Bare Below Elbow; no watches, permanent jewelry, rings; no artificial nails Scrub Color: Navy Parking: Free Unit Culture: Teamwork, Trust, Accountability, Respect, compassionate and flexible Qualifications
