Technical-Administrative Supervisors ensure the technical operations, policies, and processes are standardized throughout the shifts, days, and locations (if applicable) for their section(s). They are responsible for scheduling and employee performance of technical procedures. They work with the Manager and appropriate Section Director(s) to meet customer expectations, quality, regulatory, and safety requirements. Responsibilities

Monitor and assist the manager in the daily operations of the assigned department/section/shift, ensuring effective workflow, adherence to policies and procedures, and meeting test turnaround time expectations while maintaining quality control, instrument calibration and maintenance, training, and competency activities. Prepare and maintain monthly staff work schedules based on workload, training, and union contracts; schedule to minimize overtime where possible. Maintain departmental consumable inventory and place orders as needed. Submit complete and accurate employee timekeeping data; maintain records of employee exceptions to ensure proper conduct rules are followed. Update and maintain department procedure manuals; develop new procedures and reports as needed; ensure staff follows standard laboratory policies across shifts/sites. Assist in staff meetings and distribute meeting minutes; ensure staff awareness of policies and procedures. Maintain competency in technical procedures as dictated by workload and staffing. Utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data accuracy, retention, and retrieval; assist in updating LIS test menus. Research and resolve problems, provide advanced troubleshooting, and consult with managers and care teams on difficult analyses. Stay informed of developments related to the area of expertise; participate in RFPs and R&D of new instruments or products; support budget goals and look for cost-effective improvements. Develop, monitor, and report on QA standards; participate in QA programs and promote continuous quality improvement; assist with process improvements. Ensure QC and maintenance procedures are performed and documented; prepare monthly QC reports and notify management of risks. Develop and maintain the proficiency testing (PT) program; ensure PT testing is conducted per procedure and results are reported to agencies within required timeframes. Ensure regulatory compliance and participate in on-site inspections (CAP, ASHI, AABB, JCAHO, etc.). Create and maintain training and competency programs; train new employees, students, and residents as needed; assess training progress. Participate in hiring decisions and interview technical candidates; communicate with staff regarding performance and development; participate in performance evaluations and improvement plans as appropriate. Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, or related field. ASCP certification within one year from date of hire, where applicable. Minimum of 4 years of professional work experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Chemistry Technologist, or Hematology Technologist in a clinical or research laboratory environment.
