How You Will Make an Impact The
Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic
provides technical support for the safe and efficient operation of terminal and logistics equipment with limited supervision, with a focus on safety. Duties include maintenance and repair of equipment such as bull dozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, man lifts, all-terrain forklifts, pumps and control devices. Troubleshoots issues, repairs failures of production and facilities mobile equipment, and ensures maximum efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Understands process flow and evaluates ways to increase operating efficiency.
Responsibilities
Gathers technical information to perform the job.
Performs equipment walk around and inspects and adjusts equipment; properly disposes of wastes.
Performs equipment repairs, changes out parts, checks equipment availability with site supervisors, and follows procedures to pick up parts and supplies from the warehouse.
Responsible for all tasks related to predictive and preventative maintenance programs, including repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment such as bull dozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, man lifts, all-terrain forklifts and pumps; repair or replacement of engines, drive train, after treatment, electronic components, pins, bushings, track components, pickups, ATVs and preventive maintenance as needed.
Performs work order repairs.
Performs light welding and cutting to patch holes and reduce spillage.
Coordinates and plans downtime efficiently to maximize uptime of production.
Understands equipment in depth (electric motors, gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulics, computer diagnostic programs, gas and diesel engines) with the ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and make quick repairs without guidance.
Able to set up operator welders, drill press, grinder, hand tools and other metalworking equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Three (3) to Five (5) years' experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics and basic electrical repair
Technical school a plus but not required
Working knowledge of Cat ET and SIS programs
Experience in maintaining and repairing processing equipment and heavy equipment
Proficient in mobile electronic diagnostics
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, follow routers, use simple math, and use basic handheld measuring tools
Basic computer skills to use maintenance software to track and log maintenance costs; proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
Work in remote locations; position may require mandatory medical screening as outlined in company safety programs
Physical Demands
Regularly use hands to grip, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit and climb or balance
Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100+ pounds occasionally
Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Shift: 10 days on, 4 off, 12-hour days
Room and board provided at or near the job location
Working conditions may include exposure to non-air-conditioned or non-heated environments
