SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager and the general supervision of the Professional, Registered Nurse, assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission to discharge while ensuring compassionate, accountable, respectful, and excellent care across all developmental ages and cultural patterns.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Professional Nurse with assessment of nursing care needs and implementation of the plan of care.
Perform selected procedures and treatments according to standards and protocols.
Insert and hang intravenous lines and solutions as per policy.
Suctions patients and sets up enteral feedings, primes tubing, flushes feedings, adds ordered nutrients and clamps tubing, reporting deviations in flow rate and patient response.
Measure central venous pressure, change sterile dressings, perform tracheostomy care, remove patient from ventilator, insert urinary catheters, irrigate Foley catheters, pack non-communicating wounds, administer medications, organize work, report observations, document observations, maintain confidentiality, advocate for patients and families, collaborate with other healthcare providers, assist with cardiac monitoring, care for patients receiving intravenous fluids, support teaching, identify learning needs, and reinforce teaching done by the Professional, Registered Nurse.
Identify cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate CPR, demonstrate universal precaution and infection control adherence, review fire, disaster and infection control manuals, check emergency equipment, report unsafe situations, lift correctly, utilize assistive devices, maintain a patient‑comforting environment, utilize side rails and restraints, adhere to fall precaution protocol, and perform duties in emergency/code situations.
Engage in life‑long learning, meet competency requirements, maintain reliable attendance and punctuality, respond to special departmental needs, utilize time, equipment, and supplies cost‑effectively, participate in unit activities and orientation, place annual developmental goals, and utilize appropriate resources for patient and family care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Rhode Island.
Successful completion of the hospital’s patient care delivery orientation program, including entry‑level credentialing of selected skills.
Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
Two years medical/surgical nursing experience and telemetry experience required; two years endoscopy experience preferred.
Physical ability for extensive walking, standing, lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers.
PAY RANGE $36.23 per hour.
LOCATION Rhode Island Hospital – 593 Eddy Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02903.
WORK TYPE Full‑time, 8‑10 hour shifts, Day shift.
