Overview Position Title: Registered Nurse
Department: Nursing | Safety Sensitive: Yes | Reports to: Unit Director | Exempt Status: No
Position Purpose: All KHI employees are expected to perform their tasks in support of KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service. Maintain patient and staff confidentiality, professional appearance, and a positive work environment through skilled communication and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide nursing care under physician direction and in accordance with the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act and nursing standards.
Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care; adapt plans based on patient response.
Strive for excellent patient care with compassion, tact, accuracy, patience, flexibility, calmness in emergencies, and teamwork; participate in orientation of new staff as requested.
Quality of Care and Nursing Process
Provide evidence-based care to prevent Healthcare Acquired Conditions and readmissions.
Practice standard precautions and adhere to CDC hand hygiene guidelines to reduce infections.
Assessment
Conduct nursing assessments per hospital and unit policies; collect data from patients, families, and providers; perform comprehensive histories and physicals with relevant domains.
Diagnosis / Care Needs
Derive nursing diagnoses from assessment data; formulate and implement a care plan with patient involvement as appropriate.
Implementation
Deliver nursing care aligned with diagnoses and patient care standards; prioritize based on condition; involve patient and family as appropriate; collaborate with the care team; provide patient education.
Evaluation
Evaluate patient progress; revise nursing diagnoses and care plans based on reassessment data.
Documentation
Document care management clearly; complete admission assessments and care plans; record responses to treatments and interventions; provide discharge instructions.
Patient Satisfaction
Maintain patient communication boards, provide bedside shift reports, perform hourly rounds, and apply AIDET; contribute to unit patient satisfaction goals.
Qualifications Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
Licensure:
Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
Certification:
Current BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Unit Specific Requirements
Medical Surgical Units: Basic EKG competency within 3 months; De-escalation Techniques within 6 months and every 2 years.
Pediatrics: PALS within 6 months; De-escalation Techniques within 6 months and every 2 years.
Intensive Care Unit: ACLS upon hire; Basic EKG within 30 days.
Progressive Care Unit: ACLS within 3 months; Basic EKG within 3 months; De-escalation within 6 months and every 2 years.
Women’s Services: NRP within 6 months; S.T.A.B.L.E.; AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certifications as appropriate.
Emergency Department: ACLS/PALS within 3 months; De-escalation within 3 months; ESI training within 6 months; TNCC within 24 months.
Other units as listed in original description with similar certification and competency requirements.
Preferences
Education: Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred
Experience: Experience in the respective clinical area preferred
Work Requirements / Special Position Requirements
Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues as Category I: routine exposure risk; potential exposure to chemicals, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.
Able to handle multiple priorities; good written and oral communication; able to move and assist patients (including up to 300 lbs); able to care for patients with infectious diseases; able to sit/stand/walk for extended periods.
