LHH is seeking a Controller to join a rapidly expanding, private equity-backed organization within the commercial services and construction-related industry. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned accounting leader to play a key role in financial operations, business strategy, and performance management across one or more operating companies. The ideal candidate will be hands‑on yet strategic, with a strong foundation in accounting, financial reporting, and team leadership. Experience working in multi‑entity environments and partnering with operational leadership is highly desirable, as this position serves as a critical link between local management and corporate finance leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the accounting operations for one or more business units, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company policies and GAAP
Oversee month‑end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements
Manage AR collections and AP processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
Oversee revenue recognition, job accounting, and related project accounting functions
Partner closely with corporate finance to maintain consistent accounting policies and strong internal controls
Support external audit preparation and assist auditors with required schedules and documentation
Collaborate with business unit leadership on annual budgets, forecasts, and financial performance tracking
Provide financial insight and analysis to support business decisions and strategic initiatives
Work cross‑functionally with operations, sales, and project management to drive profitability and cost control
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial visibility
Support ad hoc reporting and special projects as assigned by senior leadership
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least several years in a leadership or controller role
Experience in construction, commercial services, or project‑based industries highly desirable
Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices
ERP system experience required; proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus
Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and leadership levels
Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on execution
Demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment
