Control Technician – Lacey Construction Shop

This role is part of the Capital and Asset Management Program (CAMP) and supports hatchery operations across Washington. The Control Technician will assist in building, testing, and maintaining the mechanical, electronic, and electrical controls that keep facilities operating safely and reliably.

Responsibilities

Perform construction, installation, relocation, maintenance, and repair of water alarm systems.

Troubleshoot alarm system issues to determine which fixtures are causing temporary failures.

Test alarm systems to ensure they function as anticipated.

Install piping and pull wire to floats, float switches, and probes.

Perform pre‑ and post‑installation testing for existing alarm system upgrades/relocations.

Read and interpret control and wiring diagrams.

Perform general manual labor supporting trades such as electricians, carpenters, equipment operators, welders, and mechanics.

Working Conditions

Duties performed at construction sites on hatchery and wildlife areas and occasionally in a fabrication shop.

Hazards include rough terrain, riverbanks, slippery slopes, confined spaces, and all weather conditions.

Tasks involve bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds repetitively.

May involve working in or near water and performing desk and computer work.

Schedule Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Travel Requirements 60‑80% travel depending on season.

Tools and Equipment Basic hand tools, power tools (drills, rotary hammers, cut‑off saws, circular saws, metal band saws, impact drivers, pipe benders, threaders, powered motors, automotive equipment, trailers), and specialized equipment such as milling machines, sand blasters, parts washers, hydraulic punches, and metal lathes.
