Adjunct Faculty, MA in Writing – Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Advanced Academic Programs, Johns Hopkins University. Institution Description
Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is a division of Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. AAP offers high‑quality master’s degrees and certificate programs at our Washington, D.C. center, at JHU’s Homewood Campus in Baltimore, Maryland, and online. The program enrolls nearly 6,000 students each year in more than 45 majors, and is distinguished by intensive instruction, selective admissions, and 60 dedicated full‑time faculty. AAP website . Position Description
The AAP division seeks non‑tenure‑track adjunct faculty to teach courses within the MA in Writing program. Classes are offered online—synchronously in Canvas and in real‑time via Zoom. We are looking for fiction and nonfiction writers who have published extensively. The ideal candidate will have published at least one book and have online teaching experience. Experience engaging students from diverse backgrounds is highly valued. Faculty may teach one or more of the following courses: Fiction Workshop – 490.660 : Intensive writing and revision of short stories or novel chapters, peer critique, multiple submissions per semester. Nonfiction Workshop – 490.670 : Extensive experience in writing and revising factual work, peer critique, multiple essay or article submissions. Writing Memoir & Personal Essay Workshop – 490.693 : Focus on memoir and personal essay, student experimentation with voice and self‑exploration. Heritage of Literature – Examining the 20th Century – 490.684 : Reading elective covering William Carlos Williams, T.S. Eliot, James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, James Baldwin, Philip Roth, Toni Morrison. Voice in Fiction and Nonfiction – 490.745 : Examines voice in fiction and factual writing through exercises, readings, and original submissions. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced degree in creative writing, English, or journalism; master’s degree required. 1–3 years of higher‑education teaching experience in fiction or nonfiction classes. Extensive publication record in original fiction or nonfiction (electronic or print, literary journals, book form). Preferred Qualifications
A terminal degree in Fiction Writing or a related field such as Creative Writing or English. 1–3 years of graduate‑level experience teaching creative writing. Online teaching experience. Familiarity with Canvas. Background to teach a wide variety of writing courses. Application Instructions
