Project Planning Manager/APM- Manufacturing
Job Summary
The Project Planning Manager plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing projects from inception through completion within our Manufacturing Business. You will work directly with Project Management and Procurement to execute projects from inception through startup and closeout. This role facilitates good relationships with the Front End Operations Teams as well as Procurement and Manufacturing Operations teams to streamline communications and control project‑related documents. It also requires maintaining, monitoring and reporting project schedules and project risks to key stakeholders (Project Manager, Leadership Teams).
Job Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive project plans that outline scope, objectives, deliverables, resources, and timelines.
Create detailed schedules and timelines using project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Touchplan, Smartsheets), ensuring alignment with the overall manufacturing schedule.
Create equipment lists.
Create initial Purchase Order Logs for procurement, aligning with equipment lists and Bill of Materials, including release dates and expected delivery dates that align with the project schedule.
Create initial project folders within BIM360/Autodesk Construction Cloud for assigned projects.
Maintain project documents, including specifications and submittal logs, appropriately for each project within BIM360/Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Monitor RFI submissions (internally and externally) and communicate status to all project stakeholders.
Maintain Engineering Change Requests for assigned projects and ensure approvals prior to commencement of project changes.
Manage BIM360 Issues Logs for assigned projects and work proactively with operations and field teams on resolution and documentation of closeout.
Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, production) to allocate resources effectively and optimize workflow.
Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure necessary resources and materials on time.
Assist in budget development through soliciting and monitoring quotes from vendors to ensure alignment with project budgets.
Work with procurement and other project teams to identify cost‑saving opportunities and implement strategies to batch materials and orders for volume discounts.
Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions to project timelines and budgets.
Manage project risk log, conduct regular risk assessments and implement contingency plans as necessary.
Track project progress against milestones and deliverables, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
Prepare comprehensive project reports, including financial summaries, progress metrics, and variance analysis.
Escalate potential financial impacts related to material quotes and subcontractors (outsourcing and contract labor).
Implement quality control measures to ensure project deliverables meet industry standards and client specifications.
Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality procedures (Green Tag Walks, client‑specific quality reviews).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Degree requirements may be waived in lieu of experience as determined by management.
Proven experience in project planning, scheduling, procurement or management within the manufacturing and construction industries.
Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., BIM360, Microsoft Project, Touchplan, Smartsheets, Excel).
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience motivating and managing cross‑functional teams, and ability to influence others without authority.
