About The Company
At Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our four products: Everand, Scribd, Slideshare, and Fable. We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer. When it comes to workplace structure, we believe in balancing individual flexibility and community connections. It’s through our flexible work benefit, Scribd Flex, that employees – in partnership with their manager – can choose the daily work‑style that best suits their individual needs. A key tenet of Scribd Flex is our prioritization of intentional in‑person moments to build collaboration, culture, and connection. For this reason, occasional in‑person attendance is required for all Scribd employees, regardless of their location. So what are we looking for in new team members?

Senior Android Engineer
on the Everand team: you’ll help shape the future of how people discover, organize, and enjoy books.
Everand is growing, and we’re evolving our reading and listening experiences to make stories more accessible, personal, and engaging for our readers. You’ll play a vital role in connecting readers with the stories they love by owning the core consumption areas of the app, including Home, Discover, Saved, and the Audio Player.
You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, QA, and product partners to align technical decisions with user needs and platform capabilities.
Along the way, you’ll build features that drive performance, personalization, and reliability – while helping shape the technical direction of our Android team. We value quality over speed, thoughtful planning over short‑term hacks, and continuous improvement over “just good enough.”
We’re looking for engineers who share these values and who are energized by writing clean, scalable code, trying new technologies, and collaborating with diverse teams. About The Role
Your main focus will be to design and build high‑quality Android experiences that make reading and listening more personal, discoverable, and organized across Everand’s audiobook and eBook. Collaborate with product, design, QE, and engineers to deliver features that are performant, intuitive, and visually polished. Strengthen the app’s architecture and performance, ensuring smooth playback, fast load times, and a reliable offline experience. Contribute to technical direction, helping evolve Everand’s Android foundations and development best practices. Partner with other engineers to improve code quality, test coverage, and release reliability. Participate in code reviews, mentorship, and design discussions to help the team grow and move cohesively. Champion a user‑first mindset, grounding technical decisions in how they enhance the reading and listening experience. We’re Excited About You Because
You bring significant experience in Android development with a strong track record of building and shipping high‑quality consumer apps at scale. You write clean, maintainable Kotlin code and have deep experience with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flows, and modern Android architecture patterns such as MVVM or MVI. You have a keen eye for usability, accessibility, and performance, and care about the craft of building intuitive, beautiful interfaces. You’re experienced in media or streaming apps (e.g., ExoPlayer or Media3) and understand the nuances of delivering seamless playback and offline experiences. You thrive in cross‑functional collaboration, communicating early and often with product, design, and QA partners to align on goals and tradeoffs. You take ownership from concept to release and value long‑term thinking over short‑term fixes. You enjoy mentoring, knowledge‑sharing, and helping the team move as a cohesive unit. You care deeply about the users; understanding what makes Everand impactful in their daily lives and translating that empathy into the features you build. It’s a Plus If You Also Have – (Optional)
Experience improving app reliability, load performance, or crash metrics in large‑scale Android apps. Familiarity with dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger) and Compose Navigation. Exposure to Auth0 or similar authentication frameworks. Interest in cross‑platform collaboration with teams working in iOS or React Native. Compensation
