Job Title Primary Care Researcher: Open Rank - Associate, Professor
Position Summary The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) Department of Family Medicine seeks an experienced researcher to collaborate and contribute to an active and growing research program in the DFM.
The position will be predominantly research, although some clinical work or teaching is possible depending upon candidate background and interests.
The role requires partnership with diverse programs, departments, centers, and disciplines across CU SOM, other schools, community, and academic partner organizations.
We especially value applicants with transdisciplinary interests in exercise as medicine, whole person health and chronic pain, addictions, and/or behavioral health.
Responsibilities
Secure federal and other large grants and contracts (as PI and MPI) in health services and/or clinical trials research and participate as a Co-I in active research projects.
Identify and secure other grants and contracts from different funders, including industry and foundations.
Prepare and edit manuscripts; develop innovative dissemination approaches.
Collaborate with teams across departments, local organizations, and academic institutions nationwide to conduct research and disseminate findings.
Build and maintain relationships with clinicians in DFM, across campus, and in community and clinical settings.
Establish and maintain communication and promote collaboration within CU and other organizations.
Provide professional development and research mentorship to junior faculty and research staff in the DFM.
Provide oversight of project staff and identify professional development opportunities.
May provide clinical services in primary care clinics as determined by the department and candidate.
May provide teaching in SOM or other clinical areas as determined by the department and candidate.
Work Location Hybrid – eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications
Associate Professor:
Terminal degree (MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent) and at least 5 years of experience in primary care research, implementation science, clinical trials, or health services research; proven extramural funding record; ability to meet School of Medicine criteria for associate professor.
Professor:
Terminal degree and at least 8 years of experience in the same areas; track record of extramural funding and meeting full professor criteria.
Physicians: Colorado medical license, current DEA certificate, and credentialing with UCH system and UPI Managed Care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading or involving primary care, clinical trials, and/or practice-based research networks.
Experience leading or conducting practice improvement work in primary care.
Demonstrated success obtaining federal extramural funding, especially in practice-based research networks.
Research on high-priority areas for DFM.
Strong publication and grant funding record.
Experience and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring junior faculty.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Strong teamwork skills.
Flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
Ability to work with diverse populations.

$160,000–$200,000
Professor:
$190,000–$240,000
Salary set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. Not eligible for overtime unless non-exempt. Additional compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions.
