Assistant Professor, Biology & Biomedical Engineering Boston University College of Arts & Sciences & College of Engineering

Position Overview:

Join the Biological Design Center (BDC), a collaborative hub that pioneers synthetic tissues to understand biological systems and address human health challenges. This tenure‑track role involves a primary appointment split equally between the College of Engineering and the College of Arts & Sciences, with potential affiliated appointments in Materials Science and Engineering, computational biology, and the medical school. The position is full‑time and located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Compensation:

Salary range $120,000‑$130,000, determined by department budgets, qualifications, experience, and internal pay comparison.

Responsibilities

Lead an independent research program that develops synthetic tissues for disease modeling and therapeutic applications, with emphasis on regenerative medicine, organoids, and mechanobiology.

Secure grant funding to sustain and expand the research program.

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and provide effective mentorship to students.

Foster collaborative research across BU’s Colleges of Engineering and Arts & Sciences, as well as with the Medical School and diverse BU research centers.

Participate in the intellectual life of the university through service, leadership, and outreach.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Demonstrated potential to build a significant, independent research program.

Strong record of scholarship, teaching, and service.

Good communication skills and ability to work across disciplines.
