SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to prepare and maintain timely, accurate, and reliable accounting and financial records for M.A. Mortenson Company and related entities. The role ensures financial information and activities are accounted for in compliance with applicable internal policies and technical accounting guidance. Accuracy is maintained through analytical review procedures, internal controls, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete month‑end financial close activities, including preparation and posting of journal entries supported by appropriate documentation, analytical review of account activity, and research. Identify and pursue opportunities to streamline financial close processes and assist in implementing improvements identified.

Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and supporting documentation for high‑volume accounts supporting the main construction business. Accounting areas include Fixed Assets, Leases, Intercompany, Key Reserves, and Accruals.

Investigate, document, and follow up on reconciling items in assigned reconciliations as part of daily and monthly tasks. Assist in the development of enhanced reporting and analysis of data for account reconciliations and related accounting activities.

Review monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting documentation for staff accountants. Provide mentorship and training to team members to enhance staff performance and increase their understanding of technical accounting items and processes.

Maintain formal procedures, internal controls, and appropriate segregation of duties for key accounting processes and calculations. Assist with identifying and implementing continuous improvements to accounting processes.

Ensure accounting processes and activities align with internal policies and technical accounting requirements. Assist in documenting and reviewing process flows related to key accounting transactions and activities to clearly articulate and assess the relevant impact to affected financial processes and accounts.

Work with external auditors on interim and year‑end audit activities, including preparation of workpapers and supporting analysis.

Perform ad hoc analysis and participate in special projects as identified.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including prior experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and external audit documentation requests.

CPA designation strongly preferred.

Mix of public accounting and private industry accounting experience preferred.

Demonstrated experience related to ASC 842 lease accounting, fixed assets, and prepaids preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.

Strong computer skills, with experience in general ledger software; Oracle Cloud Financials/Projects preferred.

Thorough knowledge of technical accounting principles/US GAAP, accounting processes, best practices, and internal controls.

Shown ability to meet expectations and related deadlines; ability to work with different personalities and work styles.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Professional, business‑driven mentality with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, as well as external parties.

BASE PAY RANGES The base pay range for this role is Min $83,700 – Max $125,600. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO; Chicago, IL – 5%; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR – 10%; Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
