Staff Accountant - MutualOne Bank
The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing a wide range of accounting support by using knowledge of accounting and financial institutions to perform daily responsibilities and communicate effectively with team members. This individual is proficient in various accounting software to process transactions in all accounting modules (accounts payable, general ledger, investments and fixed assets). The Staff Accountant will also use software applications to prepare internal and regulatory reports, gather information for reconciliations and conduct necessary research.

Experience & Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting/Finance
Two or more years of accounting experience is preferred
Background and general knowledge of accounting principles
High‑intermediate to advanced Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Office products
Essential Job Functions
Provides accounting support to the department
Reviews, analyzes, and processes accounting transactions of moderate complexity, adhering to GAAP and communicating issues to supervisor
Uses critical thinking to work through tasks while determining when to escalated issues
Reconciles general ledger accounts and ensures outstanding items are resolved within 30 days
Creates and posts general ledger entries
Performs accounts payable functions and manages related record keeping
Processes and reconciles fixed asset and prepaid activity and analyzes month‑end depreciation expenses
Assists in tax and regulatory reporting
Assists in processing and reconciling investment activity
Prepares disbursements, maintains financial records and creates reports for the Charitable Foundation
Operates in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards for financial institutions
Performs cost accounting for COCC
Assists with record storage and retrieval coordination
Shares responsibility for reconciling the Federal Reserve Bank account daily and escalates outstanding issues
Works under time‑sensitive deadlines in a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities
Assists in preparing data for pledging collateral with the Federal Reserve Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good understanding of accounting systems and willingness to learn
Effective written and verbal communication skills
High‑intermediate to advanced Excel skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
Accuracy and attention to detail
Application of critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
Ability to determine work priorities and meet schedules
Successful completion of in‑house or approved training programs
Compliance with BSA regulations as appropriate
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers
Requires manual dexterity and prolonged sitting
Must work schedules that may include early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours
