Job Description:
Pay Range: $22.24hr - $24hr
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting, labeling, and processing specimens in accordance with established laboratory procedures.
This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent patient interaction skills, and a commitment to maintaining safety and compliance standards.
The candidate should be proficient in performing venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques while ensuring accurate data entry and documentation.
Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Verify and understand physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test order requirements.
Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
Package specimens for transport while maintaining integrity and temperature requirements.
Store samples in appropriate containers and follow specific transport procedures.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer phone calls and provide laboratory results as required.
Requirement/Must Have:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required).
Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
1.5 years of experience in Phlebotomy preferred.
Experience working with various patient types and performing hard sticks.
Experience handling urine, thyroid testing, and specimen processing.
Strong attention to detail and data entry skills.
Skills:
Phlebotomy (venipuncture and specimen handling).
Computer literacy and data entry accuracy.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to handle difficult blood draws ( hard sticks ) efficiently.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
