Position Summary Evaluates medical records, provides clinical and surgical abstraction, and assigns appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines.
Core Functions
Analyze medical information from records, accurately code diagnostic and procedural information, consult with providers for missing information, and provide thorough, timely and accurate coding to meet productivity and quality standards.
Abstract clinical diagnoses, procedures, and other pertinent data into the electronic medical records, ensuring complete records.
Provide quality assurance for records, ensuring compliance with coding rules and regulations for state Medicaid, CMS, OIG, and other agencies.
Compile daily and monthly reports; tabulate data for research or analysis.
Work independently under regular supervision; use specialized knowledge for accurate assignment of ICD/CPT codes per national guidelines.
Ideal Candidate
Minimum 1 year recent experience in E/M Urology coding.
Surgical Urology experience preferred.
Currently certified through AAPC or AHIMA at a level above CPC‑A.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent; or an Associate’s degree in a related health care field.
Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS‑P), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), CPC‑A, RHIA, or RHIT; active status with AAPC or AHIMA.
Minimum six months professional coding experience within a broad range of health care facilities.
Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles per ACs coding competencies.
Ability to work effectively in a remote setting using common office programs, coding software, and abstracting systems.
Preferred Qualifications Specialty certification in surgical urology or gynecology oncology.
Additional Related Education And/Or Experience Preferred Experience in academic coding/guidelines.
