Senior Director, Utilities Potential to be considered for a higher-level role based on experience
Position Summary The Senior Director, Utilities at Virginia Transformer will lead and expand commercial growth across all utility segments—including Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), Municipal Utilities, Electric Cooperatives, and Public Power Agencies. This on-site leadership role oversees a high-performing team of Market Managers, Sales Engineers, and Market Representatives responsible for delivering custom transformer and grid‑infrastructure solutions nationwide.
The ideal candidate brings deep utility‑sector expertise, a strong understanding of grid modernization and reliability needs, and a track record of building influential relationships with utility decision‑makers. This leader will drive long‑term commercial strategy, market expansion, and revenue growth—while helping position Virginia Transformer as the preferred partner for mission‑critical power infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Utility Market Leadership
Lead the Utilities division with a focus on sustained growth across IOUs, municipal utilities, co‑ops, and public power organizations.
Establish Virginia Transformer as the trusted supplier of custom power transformers and grid solutions.
Sales Strategy & Execution
Develop and execute strategic sales plans targeting all utility segments.
Engage with C‑suite leaders, engineering teams, procurement groups, and planning departments to influence specification and project opportunities.
Customer Relationship Development
Build, strengthen, and retain high‑value utility partnerships through consultative, solutions‑driven engagement.
Anticipate customer needs and provide superior technical and commercial support.
Track and analyze trends including regulatory updates, renewable integration, grid hardening programs, and utility procurement patterns.
Translate industry insights into competitive advantages and refined commercial strategies.
Performance & Revenue Growth
Set, track, and manage KPIs to ensure consistent achievement of revenue and growth targets.
Use data‑driven forecasting and pipeline management to optimize sales execution.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Partner with engineering, operations, supply chain, and product development to ensure aligned, customer‑driven transformer solutions.
Support customer technical requirements, regulatory compliance, and evolving grid needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or related field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of sales or business development experience in the utility or electrical infrastructure industry.
Experience with power transformers, T&D equipment, or grid‑related solutions strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of utility operations, T&D planning, reliability standards, and regulatory environments (FERC, NERC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC).
Proven success leading strategic accounts and teams across multiple utility types.
Exceptional executive communication, influence, and relationship‑building skills.
Ability to create high‑value solutions to complex grid challenges.
