Description of Work Responsible for the daily operation of the department and its programs. The Chair/Director must promote excellence, provide strategic leadership, mentor faculty, and coordinate instruction. Duties require long‑ and short‑term planning, decision making, and coordination of departmental resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead a department that offers a major, minor, graduate certificate, and M.A. programs.
Manage faculty and student affairs, promote research and teaching excellence.
Advocate for the department at college and university levels.
Facilitate external grant support and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Ensure compliance with departmental bylaws and university policies.
Minimum Experience / Education Earned doctorate (or terminal degree) in philosophy or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Tenured faculty rank at UNC Charlotte.
Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field from an accredited institution.
Strong publication, teaching, and service record.
Experience in leadership of undergraduate/graduate education and faculty mentoring.
Ability to secure external grant funding.
Commitment to student, staff, and faculty engagement.
Previous administrative experience and interdisciplinary collaboration.
