Description HeartShare is currently seeking a Transportation Specialist who will be responsible for coordinating transportation and physically escorting our clients to appointments and other destinations. The Transportation Specialist will organize transports, track and log specifics about transports, maintain vehicles, provide safety training, and perform other travel-related duties.
Primary Responsibilities And Essential Functions Of Position
Safely transport individuals with intellectual disabilities to and from designated locations, such as schools, homes, and medical appointments. Assist passengers with getting in and out of the vehicle, ensuring their comfort and safety.
Follow established routes and schedules, while adapting to any changes or unexpected situations that may arise.
Maintain open communication with individuals, their families, and care providers to ensure their specific needs are met during transportation.
Provide physical assistance, such as securing wheelchair restraints or helping passengers with mobility challenges.
Foster a caring and understanding environment, treating individuals with dignity, respect, and empathy. Monitor and promptly report any concerns or incidents that may impact the safety or well‑being of the passengers.
Ensure the condition and cleanliness of the vehicle, performing routine checks and reporting any maintenance needs promptly.
Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while operating the vehicle. Attend regular meetings or training sessions to enhance your understanding of individuals with intellectual disabilities and improve your driving and communication skills.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
A valid driver’s license and at least one year of driving experience to perform the job safely
Excellent navigation skills and proficiency in using navigation applications
Time management and organizational skills to stay on schedule
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients
