About the Role NYC Health + Hospitals – South Brooklyn Health is seeking an experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to oversee all nursing services and lead strategic initiatives that enhance patient care, clinical operations, staff engagement, and overall healthcare quality. Reporting to the CEO and the system’s Chief Nursing Executive, the CNO will shape nursing standards, performance metrics, operational efficiency, and culture across the organization. This is a high-impact leadership role ideal for a transformational nurse executive with deep experience in hospital operations, union environments, and large healthcare systems.

Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership for all nursing operations, ensuring high-quality, safe, patient-centered care.

Develop and implement nursing policies, standards, procedures, and system-wide clinical strategies.

Lead performance improvement initiatives aligned with organizational goals, quality metrics, and cost-effective care.

Promote evidence-based practice, innovative care models, and collaborative decision‑making across departments.

Oversee nursing education programs, training, staff development, credentialing, performance evaluations, and workforce planning.

Foster strong labor–management relationships and facilitate collaborative forums such as the Nurse Practice Council.

Partner with senior leaders, medical staff, and department heads to drive clinical integration and operational excellence.

Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and NYC Health + Hospitals regulations, policies, and standards of care.

Guide capital planning, staffing, and budgeting for nursing services.

Represent the nursing department at executive, community, and organizational meetings.

Improve HCAHPS scores within 3 years.

Achieve Magnet® designation within 5 years.

Achieve Leapfrog “A” safety grade within 5 years.

Qualifications

Valid or pending New York State RN license.

Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration or a related field.

8+ years of nursing experience, including 6+ years in administration or management.

Proven success in complex hospital settings or large healthcare systems.

Demonstrated experience driving organizational or structural change.

Strong strategic planning, execution, and leadership skills.

Experience working in union environments.

Prior CNO experience is required.

Preferred Skills

Documented experience achieving Magnet® status.

Strong background in quality improvement, system performance, and clinical operations.

Base pay range $295,000.00/yr - $350,000.00/yr

Pay range and compensation package Compensation: $295,000 – $350,000 annually
