Position Overview
The Tax Senior Manager plays a key leadership role overseeing complex tax engagements, managing client relationships, and guiding high‑performing teams. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership ability, and a strategic approach to tax planning and practice growth.
Key Responsibilities Client Advisory & Engagement Management
Lead multiple engagements for corporations, partnerships, and high‑net‑worth individuals.
Provide strategic tax planning, consulting, and compliance services.
Review complex federal, state, and local returns to ensure accuracy and timely filing.
Identify tax‑saving opportunities and deliver proactive advisory support.
Build and maintain trusted client relationships.
Leadership & Team Development
Supervise and mentor managers, supervisors, and staff.
Oversee engagement planning, budgets, and scheduling.
Provide feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Champion a collaborative, positive team culture.
Technical Expertise & Quality Control
Stay updated on tax law changes and industry developments.
Conduct technical reviews of returns and workpapers.
Ensure compliance with quality control standards and professional guidelines.
Support process improvements and technology enhancements.
Firm Leadership & Business Development
Participate in firm initiatives including recruiting, training, and strategic planning.
Contribute to business development and client expansion opportunities.
Represent the firm at professional and community events.
Collaborate with leadership on department goals and firm strategy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation preferred.
Active CPA license required.
10+ years of progressive public accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
Strong expertise in corporate, partnership, and individual taxation, including multistate and consolidated returns.
Solid understanding of federal and New York State tax codes.
Proficiency with tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx) and strong Excel skills.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management capabilities.
Proven ability to deepen client relationships and support practice growth.
