Registered Nurse II-WIP 7East Medical Unit - Dayshift (2500035X)
7 East is a 50-bed Pediatric Medical Care Unit that provides exceptional, compassionate care to patients from just a few days old through their teenage years. Our patients come from all over the world and present with a wide range of diagnoses, making our unit a dynamic and exciting place to work. We are a fast-paced environment where two days are the same. Our team collaborates with multiple medical and consulting services, delivering top-tier care with teamwork, respect, and support. The culture is collaborative and inclusive—we take our work seriously, but we keep things positive and uplifting. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children’s National Policies and Procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. Children’s National supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large.
Responsibilities
Transformational Leadership: Contribute to Magnet re-designation and participate in councils, committees, task forces, and/or community outreach.
Demonstrate critical thinking by problem solving appropriately during patient care.
Communicate to reflect development of plan of care and advocate to meet patients’ needs.
Independently initiate escalation of issues utilizing chain of command.
Demonstrate proper use of hand-off processes and maintain collegial, respectful relationships with ancillary staff.
Participate in implementing change and support management decisions.
Model behavior that reflects empathy, concern, and a desire to help others.
Structural Empowerment: Independently maintain regulatory requirements (e.g., license, BLS).
Plan for mandatory education and professional activities to enhance nursing practice.
Demonstrate professional review of peers through timely evaluations.
Seek opportunities to enhance departmental goals by adhering to national safety standards and service excellence; support education and certification.
Collaborate with the healthcare team and demonstrate teamwork with coworkers.
Utilize resources as needed and know when to escalate to the next level.
Exemplary Professional Practice: Use patient and family assessment data to complete the data base and plan of care within identified timeframes.
Demonstrate clinical skills with complex patients, reflecting analysis of status and appropriate interventions.
Prioritize and organize care for complex patients with rapidly changing needs.
Documentation adheres to high standards of practice.
Anticipate and plan for patient education needs before discharge; ensure education is verified with patient and family.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills and complete assignments on time.
Demonstrate caring in all encounters with patients and families, reflected in patient satisfaction feedback.
Safety: Speak up when unsafe behavior or performance is observed; validate information needed for decision making; act to resolve uncertainty; maintain clear and timely communication; promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and co-workers; practice Stop, Think, Act and Review to self-check behavior.

Qualifications Minimum Education A.A. (Required); BSN (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience 1 year RN experience (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge The licensed Registered Nurse will complete hospital and nursing orientation at Children’s National. Maintain knowledge with changes in the specialty area.
Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia depending on location of practice (Required); CPR (Required).
