Healthcare Shares Overview
Healthcare Shares is a healthcare venture capital fund investing broadly in social-impact healthcare startups. We are forming a cohort of Psychiatrist Advisors within our multidisciplinary clinical network to ensure that investment decisions reflect real-world behavioral health realities, safety standards, care-coordination challenges, and the long-term clinical needs of patients with complex mental health conditions.
Role Overview Psychiatrist Advisors will support the investment diligence process by evaluating startups through the lens of psychiatric safety, evidence-based treatment pathways, psychopharmacology oversight, multimorbidity management, suicide-risk safeguards, virtual-care feasibility, and longitudinal therapeutic continuity. While our investment scope is broad, psychiatry provides essential perspective on care quality, neurobiologic treatment logic, therapeutic alliance, crisis response protocols, medication-monitoring fidelity, and integration with primary care and specialty networks.
Core Responsibilities • Conduct clinical review of digital behavioral health platforms, virtual psychiatry models, addiction treatment solutions, suicide-prevention technology, care navigation tools, and AI-supported diagnostics. • Evaluate safety claims, risk-stratification approaches, crisis escalation pathways, clinical supervision structures, and medication-management integrity. • Support diligence by assessing scalability, therapeutic adherence models, retention metrics, wait-time reduction strategies, and health-equity implications in behavioral care. • Advise portfolio companies on psychiatric prescribing protocols, screening standards, trauma-informed care design, virtual-group logistics, and comorbidity management (depression, anxiety, SUD, bipolar, ADHD). • Collaborate with primary care, neurology, emergency medicine, psychology, and social-work advisors to review patient-safety safeguards and cross-specialty coordination. • Track emerging trends in digital therapy, tele-psychiatry, AI risk-detection tools, medication tracking, remote symptom analytics, and crisis-response innovation.
Ideal Qualifications • Board-certified Psychiatrist with experience in outpatient psychiatry, inpatient units, emergency psych, addiction medicine, child/adolescent psychiatry, or community mental health. • Familiarity with psychopharmacology guidelines, controlled-substance monitoring, suicide-risk mitigation, and continuity-of-care models. • Experience with digital behavioral health platforms, virtual group therapy, predictive analytics, medication-adherence tech, or tele-psychiatry infrastructure (preferred but not required). • Ability to translate psychiatric workflow realities into investment evaluation, safety review, reimbursement logic, and implementation feasibility. • Commitment to innovation, equity, and scalable mental-health access.
Why Join the Advisor Group • Influence how innovation shapes behavioral healthcare, psychiatric access, crisis support, and digital mental-health intervention nationwide. • Collaborate with multi-specialty clinical peers guiding social-impact investment decisions. • Flexible role designed to complement active practice, academic work, research, or leadership responsibilities. • Carried interest participation tied to fund performance. • Direct engagement with founders and clinical product teams building next-generation behavioral-care delivery models.
Engagement Structure & Benefits • Carried interest eligibility and advisory compensation structure. • Participation in diligence cycles, safety reviews, clinical product evaluations, and mental-health innovation sessions. • Remote, selective engagement based on specialty relevance and deal flow. • Access to mission-driven startups improving psychiatric access, care quality, stigma reduction, neurodiversity support, and crisis-response systems.
