Healthcare Shares Overview
Healthcare Shares is a healthcare venture capital fund investing broadly in social-impact healthcare startups. We are forming a cohort of Gastroenterologist Advisors within our multidisciplinary clinical network to ensure that investment decisions reflect real-world digestive disease burden, procedural safety, chronic symptom management, and scalable GI care-delivery models across screening, diagnostics, and longitudinal treatment.
Role Overview Gastroenterologist Advisors will support the investment diligence process by evaluating startups through the lens of GI diagnostic accuracy, endoscopic safety, inflammatory disease course, microbiome relevance, liver–metabolic interactions, colorectal pathways, care navigation feasibility, and chronic symptom impact on total-cost-of-care. While our investment scope is broad, gastroenterology provides essential perspective on polyp-to-cancer screening logic, IBD/IBS management, GI oncology, microbiome therapeutics, hepatology data integration, and chronic relapsing disease trajectories.
Core Responsibilities • Conduct clinical review of technologies impacting GI screening, endoscopy/colonoscopy workflows, stool and microbiome analytics, IBD management, liver disease platforms, and GI-related metabolic therapeutics. • Evaluate safety claims, diagnostic sensitivity/specificity, prep-adherence models, polyp detection AI, virtual GI pathways, and hepatology–metabolic coordination. • Support diligence by assessing scalability, care-continuity models, symptom-to-data correlation, flare management, and payer alignment for high-cost GI chronic diseases. • Advise portfolio companies on GI workflow realities, procedural scheduling logic, biomarker interpretation, dysbiosis use cases, NASH/NAFLD monitoring, and chronic inflammatory risk pathways. • Collaborate with primary care, endocrinology, oncology, radiology, and nutrition advisors to review multi-organ disease dynamics and escalation protocols. • Track emerging trends in capsule endoscopy, AI polyp recognition, remote fecal/biomarker testing, microbiome-targeted therapies, immunologic GI therapeutics, and virtual IBD clinics.
Ideal Qualifications • Board-certified Gastroenterologist with experience in endoscopy/colonoscopy, IBD, IBS, liver disease, GI oncology, motility disorders, and microbiome-driven symptoms. • Familiarity with dysplasia risk protocols, colorectal screening standards, therapeutic biologics, and liver–metabolic monitoring. • Experience with digital health platforms, virtual GI symptom triage, remote diagnostics, predictive analytics, or endoscopy AI (preferred but not required). • Ability to translate GI workflow realities into investment evaluation, safety review, reimbursement logic, and long-term adoption feasibility. • Commitment to innovation and evidence-based transformation of digestive health and population screening.
Why Join the Advisor Group • Influence how innovation shapes GI screening, IBD remission support, liver disease monitoring, microbiome therapeutics, and chronic digestive care nationally. • Collaborate with multi-specialty clinical peers guiding social-impact investment decisions. • Flexible role designed to complement active practice, academic research, procedural schedules, or leadership responsibilities. • Carried interest participation tied to fund performance. • Direct engagement with founders building next-generation GI diagnostics, screening automation, chronic disease platforms, and microbiome solutions.
Engagement Structure & Benefits • Carried interest eligibility and advisory compensation structure. • Participation in diligence cycles, GI product evaluations, and screening technology reviews. • Remote, selective engagement based on specialty relevance and deal flow. • Access to mission-driven startups improving digestive health access, early cancer detection, chronic disease management, and population-level GI outcomes.
