Position Overview
Henry Ford Health is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a Critical Care / ICU position at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. This highly autonomous night‑shift role offers the opportunity to care for critically ill patients within a well‑established, collegial team of APPs and physicians.
Position Highlights
Manage complex ICU patients with a high level of independence
Perform comprehensive histories and physicals
Hemodynamic monitoring and management
Ventilator management
Perform ICU‑related procedures (training available as needed)
Collaborate closely with Critical Care physicians while growing your practice in a supportive, academically driven environment

General Summary
The NP‑ICU/Critical Care will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary critical care unit. The NP‑ICU/Critical Care will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to critically ill patients and their families. Provides inpatient medical care for critically ill patients requiring ICU level of care. Works in collaboration with intensivist physicians, attending physicians, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience.
Education / Experience Required
Master’s degree in nursing.
Certifications / Licensures Required
Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Current state license as a Registered Nurse. Current ACLS/BLS as required. Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required.
Qualifications
NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA)
NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensure and Certification
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.
DEA - NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs. When NPs apply, they will enter MI license number instead of controlled substance license since they won’t have a CSL.
Department would work with provider to get certified after hiring as well.
Experience
1 Year inpatient APP experience, preferred.
Open to hiring a new graduate with license (cannot be a student graduating within next 4 months)
NO FNP.
Skills
