The Jacksonville, FL and Ft. Lauderdale offices of Modjeski and Masters are looking for experienced Mechanical Engineers with a valid FL PE to join the Movable Bridge Business Unit.
In this role, you will work on complex, high‑profile projects that combine mechanical systems with structural ingenuity, ensuring safe and efficient operation of some of the nation’s most critical transportation assets.
We look for candidates who thrive on solving challenging problems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to landmark projects.
What We’re Looking For
A minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
Registered Professional Engineer, preferably in Florida.
Familiarity designing and inspecting movable bridge machinery in accordance with AASHTO and AREMA design standards.
What You’ll Do
Perform mechanical design and detailing of bridge machinery and prepare contract plans, specifications, and estimates for movable bridges; may include hydraulic systems.
Perform field inspection of mechanical systems of movable bridges; may include hydraulic systems.
Perform CADD work to aid in the development of plans; design in a 3D environment such as Inventor and 2D CADD experience in AutoCAD preferred.
Develop effective presentation skills.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including pursuing new work and networking with staff at DOTs and other agencies.
Be capable of performing a mixture of office and field work.
Perform mechanical design and detailing of bridge machinery components as a primary project engineer with limited guidance from project managers and senior engineers.
Manage tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
Show effective technical writing and presentation skills.
Perform field tasks at heights.
