Job Summary The Nurse Manager is responsible for daily planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies.
This position supports our Spine and Sports Medicine Clinics, leading staff to model a professional practice environment by providing clinically competent staff, encouraging strong interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting autonomy and accountability, and fostering continuous learning and a culture focused on patient care.
The Nurse Manager supports research, participates in strategic planning, and ensures patient advocacy. Accountability is to the Practice Manager and Director of Ambulatory Nursing Practice, collaborating with the Physician Medical Director and Practice Manager on workflows, program development, and patient experience.
Department Overview The Spine Center at UC Davis Medical Center provides care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical surgical and/or ambulatory needs. The UC Davis Spine Center offers an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to spine wellness, with nationally recognized faculty physicians, advanced practice providers, and professional patient services team.

Minimum Qualifications
Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master’s degree in nursing or related field (or Bachelor’s degree in another field paired with a Master’s in Nursing)
At least three (3) years of RN nursing management or supervisor experience
Minimum of five (5) years of RN nursing experience
In-depth clinic/center patient care management skills, including scheduling, customer‑service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and information technology
Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills
Strong knowledge of healthcare information technology and patient care workflows
Command of the English language (verbal and written)
Strong leadership and critical thinking skills, including rapid resolution of complex clinic/resource issues
Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing processes for independent clinical decisions and leadership within the department
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in Spine, MSK, Ortho, Neuro
American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS Certification
American Heart Association (AHA) PALS Certification
AMB‑BC, NE‑BC, or NEA‑BC certification
Experience and knowledge of the MSK specialty
Recent experience in a surgical clinic setting
Telephone triage or case management experience
Surgical case management experience
Referral triage experience
