Power System Studies Engineer – Jacobs Founded by Jacobs, this role focuses on analyzing and modeling power systems to support renewable energy projects across North America.

Base Pay Range $70,800.00 /yr – $93,000.00 /yr

Overview The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate regional and global decarbonization and energy transition targets. This role works closely with regional and global power systems teams to support and lead projects for renewable developers, transmission owners/developers, and utilities.

Responsibilities

Perform internal plant power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, over‑voltage, arc flash, and harmonics.

Perform external plant studies to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements and NERC standards.

Support projects throughout the entire lifecycle, from technical bid to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close‑out.

Deliver projects on time and to budget.

Collaborate with team members across North America and globally.

Engage with renewable developers, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs.

Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and technical committees such as IEEE or CIGRE.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum 4 years of direct experience with system studies on utility‑scale renewable projects.

Proficiency with PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or equivalent.

Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, and CIGRE standards.

Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical capabilities with a focus on results.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Willingness to travel within North America.

Desired (but Not Required)

Experience with system studies in California and/or WECC.

Experience with offshore wind and HVDC.

Programming knowledge (e.g., Python) to streamline studies.

Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) license.

Remote Opportunities This position is flexible and can be remote anywhere in North America. Preference will be given to candidates located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Boston, Orlando, or Dallas/Fort Worth.
